The Lens of Allowing: Seeing Compassion, Healing, and Sisterhood Differently
In this week’s episode of Her New Lens, I sat down with Maureen Spielman, spiritual psychology coach and founder of the Mystical Sisterhood Podcast and community.
In this soulful conversation, we explore how shifting your inner lens can transform your relationships with your emotions, community, and self. Together, we reimagine how compassion can look and feel. Especially when softness becomes a new way of being truly kind to yourself. We discuss the gift of allowing. And we reflect on the power of women gathering in conscious, supportive sisterhood.
We also discussed how some paths don’t just guide us forward—they shift how we see entirely.
Let’s dive in and take a closer look at what she had to say.
First Up, More About Spiritual Psychology Coaching: A Lens for the Soul
From Maureen, I learned what makes spiritual psychology unique. It’s its foundational belief that we live in a benevolent universe that is continuously supporting our awakening.
This is a stark contrast to how many people feel or have felt, including myself. Over the years, I’ve had my share of times where I truly felt the complete opposite way – as if everything was angled against me.
It’s wild how deeply rooted a victim mindset can be. It’s as if we’re wired to believe the universe is out to get us. And to wonder, “Why is this happening?” Instead of being able to see events in our lives as guideposts leading us in the right direction.
So, what do you think of these lenses? Can you believe that what she’s saying is true? Can you take the perspective that we’re always being led and guided?
Emotions as Messengers: A Softer Way of Seeing
Maureen’s entry point came through the teachings of Susie Lula, a graduate of the University of Santa Monica’s pioneering program in spiritual psychology. Rather than “fixing” what’s broken, this approach asks: What is this emotion here to show me? And how can I work toward allowing it and meeting it with curiosity instead of fear?
What struck me most was this unique way of understanding emotions.
This perspective offers a helpful reframe! Emotions aren’t obstacles to avoid, suppress, or reason away. They’re messengers guiding us back to unmet needs, inner truths, and to the essence of who we are.
One of the most potent parts of our conversation was Maureen’s gentle approach to allowing and feeling our emotions. Where we may be conditioned to see difficult emotions like sadness, grief, or anger as something to manage or hide, she invites us to view them, sit with them, and listen to what they’re teaching us.
Viewing Compassion in a New Way
The emotion she discussed most was compassion. She explained how this can be a challenging emotion to embrace fully. It doesn’t feel easy for many people.
She suggests exploring different words and ways to describe emotions. In particular, she suggested we think of compassion more as leaning into softness. The word “softness” offers a more tangible and relatable way to experience this feeling.
And through the lens of softness and self-compassion, emotional experiences become moments of inner guidance.
“Softness is how we move toward ourselves, rather than away.”
—Maureen Spelman
Maureen teaches us that when we allow what’s within us to be seen and heard, we reclaim the power that comes from being with ourselves, not against ourselves.
The Mystical Sisterhood: Community Rooted in Intuition
The story of how Maureen created the Mystical Sisterhood is as intuitive as the community itself. During a pivotal time in her life, one marked by a blend of Western medical treatment and holistic healing, Maureen received a spiritual download: a vision of a space where women could gather in deep connection, soul-led exploration, and mutual support.
The Mystical Sisterhood Podcast has since blossomed into a platform where diverse voices and stories of intuitive and healing practices are shared. Her goal is to create an environment that shares a sense of collective sisterhood, nurturing a global community of women supporting each other’s soul-led endeavors.
That vision became a vibrant podcast and community, helping women remember that transformation isn’t just an individual path. It’s one we (gratefully) walk together.

The Lens of Allowance: Seeing Life Without Resistance
Near the end of our conversation, I asked Maureen what lens she would offer to listeners to try on for size. The lens she chose was the Lens of Allowance.
This lens invites us to experience life as it unfolds, without resistance, force, or the need to fix or change what we are experiencing. With this lens, we can live in harmony with what is happening inside of us, letting things be what they are.
I love this choice! It’s so easy for me to resist things, and I only end up stuck in my own stories. It seems that the lens of allowing offers a higher perspective and perfectly embodies the spiritual psychology coaching lens as well.
From My Lens: What This Conversation Opened Up in Me
As I listened to Maureen, I reflected on the invisible lenses we each wear—often without knowing it. These lenses, shaped by our upbringing, beliefs, heartbreaks, and our hopes and dreams, influence how we see ourselves and the world around us.
Spiritual psychology aligns well with the New Lens Method, especially its third layer, Authentic Integration. To embody and integrate our way of being in the world, we can’t be in resistance to everything that comes up. Having the ability to acknowledge feelings, feel them, and let them go can help clients move faster in the direction they want to be.
Her words reminded me that healing doesn’t always come from struggle and striving; it often comes from surrender. We can let go of expectations about how we should feel about this or that, and instead allow ourselves to feel exactly what we feel, and to trust the wisdom within.
Through our discussion about the Mystical Sisterhood, I was also reminded of the importance of community. We shared how the work of content creation and coaching can feel isolating and lonely. Just a quick one-hour meeting with others following a similar path can really lift our mood! It’s great that her Sisterhood exists!
Final Reflections: Collective Growth, One Soul at a Time
In a world that often feels so isolated, Maureen’s work reminds us that soul-led growth and healing thrive in community. Through the lens of spiritual psychology and the nurturing space of the Mystical Sisterhood, we’re reminded of something key:
We can put our faith in a kind universe, and we can join others along the way.
So, if you’ve been yearning for a softer way forward—one that honors your feelings, supports your growth, and celebrates your soul’s journey—I encourage you to explore Maureen’s work.
Of special note, as I mentioned in the podcast, Maureen radiates joy as she talks about her work. She truly loves what she does, and her enthusiasm shines through the screen!
