We create our lives moment to moment.

I’m working lately on wrapping my head around this idea: we create our lives and experiences moment to moment. It’s actually TRUE. Why is it so hard to embrace this empowering concept? Because it means we need to take responsibility for the paint we’re using to create our canvas every day.
My first exposure to the idea that we create our lives:
So, my first exposure to this “creating our lives” idea came around 15 years ago. At the time, I worked in nursing homes, caring for patients at the very end of life. But you know what they weren’t talking about? End of life. They talked with excitement about seeing their family that day, going to the beauty salon for their weekly hair appointment, or sharing details about the book they were reading. Even at that stage, they were creating their days from moment to moment.
Currently, my husband and I travel a lot. We frequently go back and forth between Boston and LA. I sometimes find myself nervous right before I leave to go to the other coast. I think to myself, “I don’t want to leave here. I’m so comfortable and have my routines in place.” But then, when I get to the other house, I’m in a new moment, in a new place, and I wake up every day and begin to create my life new again.
Summing it up:
Everywhere I go, there I am. Creating my life, moment, and day by the thoughts and emotions they inspire. I choose to feel overwhelmed, resistant, and tired – or feel excited, hopeful, and fulfilled. One thing I’ve learned is that it’s all a choice. Sometimes I need a day alone to realize this. But I always come around to see this with crystal clear vision.
We’re like magicians creating our lives either consciously or unconsciously. What are you going to create this month? Let’s make it a month of our summer dreams.
