Three Effortless Holiday Looks Featuring Jeans You Already Have in Your Closet
Kate’s Closet: Tips and advice from RCG’s resident stylist, KATE BOTTS, who believes that fashion should be an enjoyable creative outlet and make you feel uniquely confident in your own skin. Here, she works with jeans you already have, making festive holiday looks effortless.
RCG: As we are approaching this holiday season in the midst of a pandemic, everything about this season seems unfamiliar. Here in California, we are moving into more restrictions again. In terms of feeling festive, and getting dressed (!), what are your thoughts for women who feel stuck right now?
Kate: I would still make the effort, even if you’re on a zoom call because it’s mentally uplifting if you’re feeling good about being dressed in something that you feel good in.
RCG: Yes, I agree. It’s still the holidays! I guess we don’t want to be in our lulu’s for all of these occasions.
Kate: No! I would say, it’s important to be in the holiday spirit! It’s really easy to do. Pick out your favorite pair of jeans, pair it with a silky textured blouse, with perhaps a cheerful print in a color that suits your skin type. More importantly, get dressed from your head to your toes, including shoes, not slippers.
RCG: I want to ask you more about the jeans – with these looks you are going to show us, are you thinking more blue or black?
Kate: I’m thinking dark blue or black.. whatever you have readily available in your closet. And pair it with a shirt that you, perhaps, haven’t worn in nine months.
RCG: Let’s look at some of the shirts that you’ve suggested!
I love this neckline. Really pretty!
Kate: This blouse comes in two colors, but this one is my favorite color. It’s very Christmasy. You could even wear this with your favorite dark blue or black jeans. And, if you have them, your favorite faux leather pant, or coated jean. Pairing it with something as simple as this blouse from H&M.
RCG: What kind of shoes would you suggest with this?
Kate: If you are in your own home, pair this with a pair of black or gold flats. If you are going out, wear it with a boot. If you are wearing a skinny jean you can pair it with a tall black boot.
RCG: I really love this blouse. I’m going to buy it right now, actually. I want to wear something new on Christmas this year.
Kate: You could also wear this with a leather pencil skirt. For you personally, I would suggest wearing this with skinny jeans and your tall burgundy Aquitalia boots. I have so many looks for this shirt, that you are going to be sick of it by January.
RCG: Any thoughts on jewelry for this look?
Kate: I would suggest a small gold or silver hoop earring. That’s it.
RCG: Let’s go on to the next blouse.
Kate: For that one also from H&M, I would do it with a dark gray jean or a black jean. It would also work with faux leather pants, black suede skirt. All tucked in.
RCG: So cute! I love these ideas too. So, let’s go on to the next items. So what about this camo gray top?
Kate: Again, I would do this with black jeans. It looks great with the blazer. If you wear these together, you will have a really polished look.
Black jean, black boot, top, blazer.
RCG: Do you consider this herringbone blazer more of an investment piece for the wardrobe?
Kate: Yes! This blazer has a more stylish feel to it. As opposed to your work blazer, for example.
RCG: Any thoughts on a belt with any of these looks?
Kate: Only if the belt is very minimal, with no hardware showing. I would want to keep it very clean. No large buckle. I would want to keep it understated and clean.
Pair any of these tops with your favorite black jeans for a slightly elevated look. Even a pair of black trousers. All of these will look great.
RCG: What about the jeans themselves… With the women you work with, all different body types, do you have brands that you recommend?
Kate: Yes, I live in jeans. My personal favorite labels are Frame and J Brand. But at the same time, I have two pairs from Old Navy that I love. There’s a way you can do it, regardless of whatever your budget may be.
RCG: Are there any other details to add to these holiday looks to make them more festive?
Kate: No, I don’t think so. You, as you’re wearing these looks, bring the sparkle!
RCG: Thank you, Kate! I’m feeling more festive after just talking with you!
