Three Years and Counting: An Inspirational Adventure for Women Everywhere
Time has flown by!
Three years ago, I embarked on the journey of starting my blog as a platform to channel my passion for writing and share my thoughts and ideas with a wider network of women.
I wanted to inspire, educate, and connect with like-minded individuals across the globe. Writing these posts has allowed me to delve deeper into many areas of interest, explore new topics, and engage in enriching dialogues with my readers.
So, if I had to choose one blog post that summarizes the intention of the blog as a whole, it would be this one: How do you see the world?
Why? Because, in the simplest way, it’s a reminder to recognize how past experiences have influenced the way you see the world. And to know that it’s possible to influence how you see it every day.
Why the name “Rose Colored Glasses?”
Choosing a name for the site was a process!
I worked with a PR expert who helped me discover the name.
We selected it because my family name is Rose, and I worked as an optometrist for 20 years! So Rose Colored Glasses was a natural fit.
The intention of the blog is to offer uplifting content and new, more hopeful ways of seeing things, so the name worked well.
The categories for the blog headers were equally fun to come up with:
- Looking Within
- Motherhood Reframed
- Clear Connection
- New Perspectives
- Her Lens on Life
- How I See It
- Women Who Give Back
Now, let’s take a closer look at each:
Looking Within
While working on the blog, this header is the one I’m drawn to the most. I’m constantly learning and sharing many tools to help cultivate healthy habits; this is where I place them all for you.
“Looking Within” is a category that encourages introspection, fostering a deeper understanding of ourselves. Self-reflection is the cornerstone of personal growth and self-improvement.
Looking within can feel scary! Still, it helps us examine our thoughts, feelings, and actions in order to reveal patterns, triggers, and insights. Everything we discover allows us to make conscious decisions and steer our lives in a direction aligned with our authentic selves.
Looking within, we learn to trust our intuition and foster self-acceptance and inner peace.
Practices I love to guide you along the way:
These truly work! In fact, I believe that my vision book was the most powerful way I attracted my husband into my life! In this piece, I share my tips and story. If done with pure energy, I believe a vision book can lead to a shift in energy that ensures a new outcome.
Similarly, a vision board has energetic power! As we approach the beginning of a brand new year, consider creating a vision board – even if just to get ideas flowing.
Morning pages are a powerful tool to tap into your subconscious, enabling you to clear out the clutter and achieve clarity. These are typically three pages of longhand, stream-of-consciousness writing done first thing in the morning, meant to provoke, clarify, comfort, cajole, prioritize, and synchronize the day at hand.
This piece has matured and evolved over the three years. I share some of my favorite tips discovered by teachers of mine, as well as from practice. Take a look and see what you think!
Ok – this is powerful!
There’s something powerful about putting our deepest thoughts and emotions down on paper. And when it comes to expressing love, it’s not just about the romantic kind we usually associate with relationships. It’s also about learning to love ourselves.
Mainly because only you know what you really need to hear.
This is a more recent piece I wrote after working on energy. I was wondering why I felt depleted, so I did some research and came up with a list of strategies that work well. Take a look and let me know what you think!
Embodiment is a term used to describe a state of being where one is deeply connected with their physical self, fully aware of their body’s sensations and emotions. Embodiment encourages self-awareness and self-acceptance, leading to a healthier and more balanced life.
This is the goal. I want to embody everything I desire. Embodiment is the crown jewel.
Embarking on the journey towards self-improvement can often seem daunting and overwhelming, with the ultimate goal appearing so distant and difficult to achieve. Focusing on setting achievable goals and celebrating those tiny wins along the way is key in keeping the motivation and momentum going.
** This is a tactical piece, but I like it.
Life can be tough sometimes, but it’s important to remember to look on the bright side. Even when things seem difficult, there are always reasons to be positive. Maybe it’s the support of friends and loved ones, the beauty of nature, or just the fact that tomorrow is a new day. The key is to focus on those moments of light and hold onto them, even in the darkest of times. A positive outlook can make all the difference in our mental and emotional well-being, so let’s make a commitment to always try to see the good in every situation. After all, when we look on the bright side, we give ourselves the power to overcome any challenge that comes our way.

Tao Te Ching
My affection for the Tao is clear! I can’t believe the wisdom at our fingertips! We should all be reading the Tao. At the close of 2023 this is where I am:
Verse 1: Exploring the mystery
Verse 1 of the Tao Te Ching delves into the profound mysteries of the Tao, the universal principle underlying everything in existence. It accentuates the ungraspable nature of the Tao, stating that the Tao which can be named or understood is not the eternal Tao. This paradoxical statement encapsulates the ineffable nature of true reality, which transcends language and intellectual comprehension. This verse encourages us to approach the Tao not with our thinking minds, but with a sense of deep, quiet, and open-minded wonder. Therefore, it serves as a reminder that wisdom and understanding come from embracing the mystery of existence, rather than attempting to define or control it.
Introduction to it all
Verse 2: The unity of contrast
Verse 2 of the Tao Te Ching expounds upon the concept of dualities, the interplay of opposites that forms an inherent part of our existence. The verse enlightens us about how contrasting elements like beauty and ugliness, good and evil, or complexity and simplicity are interconnected and interdependent, with one giving rise to the other. This recognition of unity in contrast is fundamental to understanding the Tao, emphasizing that everything in the world is relative, interconnected, and constantly changing. The verse invites us to embrace a holistic perspective of life, acknowledging the balance between opposites, and understanding that harmony arises from recognizing and appreciating this balance.
Fascinating to consider
Verse 3: Harmony, fulfillment, peace
Verse 3 of the Tao Te Ching illuminates the path to harmony, fulfillment, and peace. It urges us to refrain from excessive focus on individual achievements or material possessions. Instead, it proposes the cultivation of inner tranquility, satisfaction with what we have, and genuine concern for others. This verse emphasizes that true peace and fulfillment are attained not by pursuing externals, but by finding balance within ourselves. Therefore, it suggests that we can live in harmony with the Tao by embracing simplicity, contentment, and compassion. This message reflects the Taoist philosophy of wu wei, or ‘non-action’, which is not about inaction, but about taking action that is in alignment with the natural flow of life and the Tao.
Always good to remember.
Verse 4: Infinite possibilities
Verse 4 of the Tao Te Ching presents the Tao as a wellspring of infinite possibilities. It describes the Tao as unfathomable, endless, and timeless, yet it is the origin of all things in the universe. This verse portrays the Tao as a profound mystery that, while difficult to comprehend in its entirety, is the very essence of existence. The verse encourages us to embrace the limitless potential within us, mirroring the Tao, and to approach life with an open mind and heart, receptive to the boundless opportunities that life offers. Thus, verse 4 illuminates the path of enlightenment, urging us to realize our inherent connection with the Tao and to let its wisdom guide our actions and experiences. This is a potent reminder of our potential for growth, transformation, and self-realization.
Yep!
Verse 5: Give kind energy equally to all
Verse 5 of the Tao Te Ching draws an analogy between the Tao and a bellows, tirelessly giving and giving, yet never empty. This verse underscores the importance of impartiality and equanimity, presenting the Tao as a benevolent force that distributes its energy equally to all. Like the bellows, the Tao is ceaselessly productive, endlessly nourishing all life without favoritism or judgment. As followers of the Tao, we are encouraged to embody this same spirit of boundless generosity and balance, sharing our kind energy and goodwill without discrimination or expectation of reward. This understanding of the Tao fosters a sense of humility, compassion, and a profound commitment to harmonious coexistence.
It’s hard to do.
Verse 6: Creativity is who we are
Verse 6 of Tao Te Ching refers to the concept of the “eternal feminine” or the “valley spirit,” often interpreted as the creative force behind all life in the universe. This verse portrays the Tao as an inexhaustible source of creativity and life, constantly bringing forth new manifestations of existence, just like a mother giving birth to children. The Tao, through the metaphor of the eternal feminine, is seen as eternally nurturing and creative. We, as individuals, are extensions of this creative energy, and our own abilities to create and innovate are reflective of this universal source. Recognizing this inherent creativity within us empowers us to confidently express ourselves and bring our unique contributions to the world.
Love this one
Verse 8: Flow freely, and without resistance
Verse 8 of the Tao Te Ching highlights the principle of living life with ease and fluidity, often compared to the flow of water. The Tao is depicted as water, an element that is accommodating yet powerful, gentle yet unyielding. Water naturally moves along the path of least resistance, shaping itself to the contours of its container or the landscape, yet it possesses the capacity to erode mountains over time. This verse encourages us to adopt a similar approach in life, to flow freely, adapt to circumstances, and move forward without resistance. It further emphasizes the virtues of kindness, compassion, honesty, and contentment. As individuals, we are called upon to embody these characteristics, fostering peace and harmony within ourselves and with others.
More, please
Verse 9: The beauty of enough
Verse 9 of the Tao Te Ching emphasizes the principle of moderation and contentment. It imparts the wisdom that overindulgence, be it in wealth, power, or any other aspect of life, can lead to imbalance and instability. The verse uses the imagery of a cup being overfilled and a sword being overly sharpened to illustrate the repercussions of excessive desires and aspirations. Instead, it encourages us to appreciate the beauty of ‘enough’, to understand the value of modesty, and to find fulfillment in simplicity and balance. This verse serves as a reminder that in the quest for more, we should not lose sight of the peace and contentment found in appreciating what we already have.
We desperately need this lesson now and always.
Verse 10: Feminine power, humility, oneness
Verse 10 of the Tao Te Ching celebrates the strength of the feminine and the power of humility. It presents the image of a valley, which, despite its lowliness, is brimming with life and vitality, underscoring the principle that true power does not lie in dominance, but in humility and receptiveness. The verse also propounds the concept of oneness, encouraging us to recognize our interconnectedness with the world around us. This understanding nurtures a profound sense of belonging and unity, and invites us to engage with life from a space of compassion and respect for all things. The teachings of this verse are timeless and universally applicable, reminding us that humility and the understanding of our interconnectedness are keys to living a harmonious and fulfilling life.
We need more of this in the world. Let’s embrace the feminine power and bring balance to our lives and our communities.
Verse 11: Emptiness, peace, and pure potentiality
Verse 11 of the Tao Te Ching emphasizes the concept of emptiness, peace, and pure potentiality. It uses the metaphor of an empty vessel or a hollow room to depict the significance of emptiness. The vessel is useful not because of its material form, but because of the space within it that can hold something. Similarly, a room’s function is determined not by its walls, but by the empty space that can be inhabited. This verse encourages us to recognize and embrace the potential in emptiness, in the spaces in between, inviting us to find beauty and utility not just in material possessions, but also in the intangible and unseen. The essence of this teaching is in understanding that peace and potentiality often reside in what we may initially perceive as empty or void. It prompts us to see the worth in quiet moments, in the gaps between actions, and in the silence between words. With this perspective, we can more fully appreciate the potential and peace that lies within our own ‘spaces’ – our minds, our hearts, and our lives.
Verse 12: The endless power of inner vision
verse 12 tao
Verse 12 of the Tao Te Ching underscores the endless power of inner vision and the perils of overindulgence in the sensory and material world. It counsels us to not let our senses overwhelm us, to not be consumed by the shiny allure of material possessions, nor be deafened by the clamor of the world. To chase after these fleeting delights is to lose one’s self, to be swept away in the tumultuous sea of worldly distractions. Instead, it asks us to tap into our inner wisdom, our inner vision, that sees beyond the surface, beyond the transient, to the eternal truth lying underneath. It is through this inner vision, unclouded by the sensory world, that we find enduring peace, clarity, and understanding. This verse serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of introspection, of looking inward, and the power that resides within us to discern, understand, and navigate our journey through life.
Verse 13: Remaining true to yourself.
Verse 13 of the Tao Te Ching is a call to remain true to oneself amidst the ever-changing tides of fortune and status. It warns of the perils of living for the approval of others and losing oneself in the pursuit of external validation. The verse encourages us to treat success and failure as mere illusions, transient as the passing seasons. It reminds us that we are not defined by external circumstances, but by our inner strength, resilience, and integrity. By staying grounded in our true nature, we can navigate life’s highs and lows with equanimity and grace. This verse compels us to question the ephemeral nature of fame and success, and to find our worth in our own authenticity and self-acceptance, thereby embodying the Taoist principle of living in harmony with one’s true self.
Verse 14: Formlessness, intuition, and harmony.
Verse 14 of the Tao Te Ching delves into the concept of formlessness, intuition, and harmony. It encourages us to embrace the unknowable, the intangible, and the elusive – elements that exist beyond our sensory perception yet form the very fabric of life. This verse underscores the importance of intuition or inner knowing, a central tenet of Taoist philosophy. It invites us to look beyond the apparent, to trust in the unseen, and to find harmony in the paradox of existence. By acknowledging the formless, we tap into a profound source of wisdom and understanding, aligning ourselves with the natural flow of the universe or the Tao. This verse serves as a profound reminder of the depth and breadth of our perception and our potential for profound insight and understanding.
Most important verse
Verse 15: Slowing down to find calm and clarity.
Verse 15 of the Tao Te Ching speaks to the power of stillness and the benefits of living a simple, uncluttered life. It encourages us to slow down, to embrace calm and clarity amidst the hustle and bustle of modern living. By simplifying our lives and reducing distractions, we create space for profound peace and inner clarity. This verse emphasizes the Taoist philosophy of non-action or ‘wu wei’, inviting us to flow with life’s currents rather than resisting or forcing. By living in alignment with the Tao – the natural order of the universe – we cultivate inner tranquillity and gain deeper insight into the nature of existence. Verse 15 serves as a gentle reminder of the transformative power of stillness and the importance of slowing down to reconnect with our inherent wisdom and serenity.

See other perspectives. Walk a mile in someone else’s shoes by considering what they’re going through to develop empathy.
Focus on growth. We all make mistakes – view challenges as opportunities to learn, not failures.
Spread joy however you can. Smile at strangers, give a genuine compliment, perform small acts of kindness. Happiness attracts more happiness.
Live in the present. Don’t dwell on the past or worry about the future. Each moment is a gift – make the most of today.
Follow inspiration. Let your curiosities lead you to new adventures, ideas, hobbies, or creative outlets that energize your soul.
Challenge limiting beliefs. Question fears, negative self-talk or narrow views that hold you back from your best self.
Believe in hope. Dark clouds always give way to light. Have faith that even hard times are making you stronger.

Identifying negative thought patterns – recognizing when your thinking gets stuck
Reframing negative thoughts into positive affirmations – turning “I’m bad at math” into “I’m improving my math skills every day”

Focusing on opportunities, not problems – seeing challenges as chances to learn and grow
Letting go of unrealistic expectations – being kind to yourself through imperfections
Surrounding yourself with optimistic people – their energy can influence your mindset
